CEClang.91 TITLE: TIMELINES AUTHOR: Penny Sexton, Okemah High School, Okemah, OK GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECTS: Any grade level English, Social Studies OVERVIEW: This lesson addresses history of city, state and self. PURPOSE: In discovering what was happening when they were born, students discover much about other areas of study as well. OBJECTIVES: Students will present a completed timeline indicating answers to previously determined questions. RESOURCES/MATERIALS NEEDED: Tom Snyder Productions "Timeliner" Local Newspaper backfiles ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES: Students will research the date of their birth in local newspaper backfiles (We have them on microfilm in our library) to find the following information which occurred on their birth date. Prices of any products Major headlines What movie was showing at the local theater One birth announcement One wedding announcement Students will develop a timeline on the computer to illustrate research information. TYING IT ALL TOGETHER: Timelines should be placed in classrooms for viewing and discussion. We use this with Freshmen English Classes to introduce microfilm and research.
